Review of Samsung Gear Sport

About a week ago I went ahead and took the leap. I bought a SAMSUNG GEAR SPORT.  I normally don’t buy expensive technology. In fact, I normally don’t buy new tech till it’s been tested by every single Blogger/Youtuber out there and by some people in my own personal Geeks Circle. But I had been looking at the Samsung Gear for about a year and decided that since it was a new product they had lowered the price by $70.00 for Mother’s day. I would go ahead a take that leap.

Now for some techy news… This isn’t the first sports version. The first version wasn’t even referred to as a SPORT also it looks different. It does have the rotating bezel (which is my favorite feature) Below you can see the first “sport” version.

So why am I saying the first “Sport” Version?

Well, Because when you look it up you will notice that it’s considered a FITNESS BAND. and that I think is simply because it has a Heart Rate Sensor and can be in the water for up to 30 minutes at 1.5 meters ( that’s only 3 feet!!!) Below you can see how it’s designed in this wonderful little clip provided by the Samsung website. Funny little note here, I just headed over to the Samsung website to look at that video down at the bottom. Then I went over to the shop area… to get you all a price and funny thing I can’t find it… I looked everywhere on that site. I guess they pulled it when they made the new one. I did find it on Best Buy though for $179.00, it still is on sale which is quite strange. So you may want to price check that.

Now on to my actual Smartwatch, I stated I bought a Samsung Gear Sport. This particular model comes in Black or Blue, I chose blue (cause it’s my favorite color). But it also has other bands that you can purchase. I am thinking of getting a leather one for dress wear.  On to why I chose it and also what I like and don’t like about it.

I chose to get this model and not the pro for the following reasons. I am not a fan of the rectangular shape of the pro. I also looked at the compare and contrast for both provided by the Samsung website.

The Gear Sport has a lot of extra features that I really do use. Such as the S-Voice. I tend to find myself needing to remind myself to do things and to set a lot of alarms to remind myself to be placed. So having the ability to tell my watch to remind me to do something is a great thing in my life. Also, I really enjoy having my phone connected to it and also being able to answer the phone and respond fully to text messages without having to reach for my phone.

I was told that the Gear Fit Pro does show you your messages and does allow you to respond with preselected text, but that you cannot type out full responses on this. The Gear Fit Pro has sleep tracking, I was a little sad that my gear didn’t have that. I mean they fit so many other features in, what’s one more? Anyway, I solved that problem easily the first day and found an App called G’night that tracks my sleep and sends it to Samsung Health.

The only other thing that the Gear Fit Pro has going for it is the Battery life. It says that you can get about 4 days with basic usage, but I am not sure. A Coworker of mine has this one currently and she has to charge hers every day. She also spends a lot more time on her phone and on her watch than I personally do. But she does love it.

I get about 3 days out of my Gear Sport and I wear it all the time. I really love the Water Lock Mode and the DND they are simple to enable. I just have to swipe down and bam all the vibration is done with.

The Gear Sport doesn’t have a speaker… or at least not one that I have been able to figure out how to use but I do know that the Frontier has that feature. The Gear Sport does allow you to control the music on your phone through the watch face and track challenges and also water and caffeine intake easily. The tracking of calories is quite interesting as you can easily add calories to your day but you cannot label or search for a food that you are taking a bite of. So you may find the need to use your phone for that.

All in all, I really can’t say that there is anything that I hate about this watch or anything that I wish was different. I would say that the most awkward thing about the watch is when I am done doing the dishes at work I have water under the band and with the rubber, on my skin, it tends to chafe it a little. But that’s easily fixed when I dry my hands. lol.
