Pear for Samsung (App Review)

With New Years’ on the way, I got to thinking this week would be a great week to start my New Year’s Revolution. So I decided that instead of getting a gym membership and totally failing at going to the gym. I would spend the money on an app.  So as I browsed through Galaxy Apps I noticed a new app Pear for Samsung. I liked this one cause it also has an app for my Samsung Gear Sport.

So what all does this app do:

This app offers interactive audio workouts. (which basically means that there is a coach telling you what to do, As a personal trainer.)

PEAR’s Platform reacts to your personal data in real-time. PEAR also offers more than 500 workout programs that range from running to strength training.

First time working out with PEAR:

Working out with PEAR  was pretty simple when I first download the app.   So I then downloaded it to my Samsung Gear Sport, after that I forgot to charge my Samsung Gear. So I couldn’t use it for this workout.

The workout that I chose to go with was RUN AT YOUR OWN PACE. It actually was pretty difficult and I did a lot of walking instead of running.

The coach Deena Kastor was very inspiring, although I thought she talked a lot. This run was a 30 min Inspirational Run with Deena though. So… I mean she did a great job inspiring me.  I actually completed the workout for the first time…and on the first try.

What I Liked about it:

I really like the app. I like that it is tied to my watch so it will remind me when I schedule a workout. Other apps don’t really do that… although they do let you add it to your calendar and that is supposed to remind you. I don’t look at my calendar a lot. So that doesn’t work for me.

Also, I noticed that with this app I have more of a choice of when I am going to do my workout. I work odd hours and don’t always have the level of commitment to actually do the workout. So being able to schedule a workout around my work schedule is a large help.

I actually just went ahead and looked at the training plans which are also offered with PEAR. I found one called SIX DAY FAT BLASTER with Robert Reames. I am actually a little bit interested and since my work schedule is pretty light this coming week. I signed up for it.

One of the things that I am really enjoying about this app is that it is trying to personalize training for me and my levels of activity based on information that it has gained from my gear. I actually am more inspired to go for a run because of my gear already, so having an app that works with that is great for me.

What I didn’t like about the app:

We all have things that we like and don’t like. Above I told you three things that I like about the PEAR App… Now here are some things that I don’t like about it.

For one, I don’t like the music. I am more of a country music person when I am running and not having the ability to select my own running mix made me frustrated.

Number two, the first time you sign up for the app you get told that you get all of this great stuff and you get to use it all for a monthly price. (great stuff huh?) the thing is that there is a yearly membership for 39.99 and also a monthly membership for 5.99. This isn’t really shown well in the app. But it is explained well if you read the description.
With the subscription, you get access to all the workouts and training plans.

If you are like me and are looking for an app that lets you work out with a coach then I would have to say that PEAR is a good choice. Also, you can click the link here and be redirected to their website which will make you want to download and get in shape.
