Did I just buy a 50.00 paperweight?

Have You ever bought something online and thought…Hopefully this product will work when I get it. 🙂 Well, I just did. I bought a Toshiba Laptop t1700 for 50.00 off eBay. The laptop is supposed to come with Ubuntu already installed on it. Now I am not a computer tech but I am looking into the A+ Certification. Did you know there are questions about Linux on there? I didn’t… I have never used a Linux based system.

So… since my funds are limited (due to bills and such) I had to think out of the box on this one. I borrowed a computer that doesn’t work from a friend and told them that if I fixed it then I would put Ubuntu or another Linux system on it. At of course no cost to them and after many tries and the help of a ex-coworker and a special USB that he created for me.

I once again failed.. but realized that I need something to test the Hard drives of the computers that I am working on.. that way I don’t keep trying to upload a OS on a broken HD.

For those of you who don’t know what OS or HD stand for. OS stands for Operating System, which can be Windows, Mac or Linux. There are not any others that I know of.  HD stands for Hard Drive. Which is where the Operating systems and all programs and files are stored.

Therefore I had to figure something else out. So I went to that site called eBay and thought to myself how much can It cost to buy a computer with a Free Operating system on it…. 100.00, 200.00…. NOPE!!!!

IT COST ME 50.00!!! That’s right you tech people… I bought a computer that has Linux on it… for 50.00. (there may be a retraction when I actually get the computer, its supposed to arrive today… hopefully its not a 50.00 paperweight) If it is…well then I am going to have a project, and an open book. I will be learning how to figure out what the problem is. That’s the first step of repair anyway.

What I actually received from eBay.

When I got home from work after writing the first part of this post. I had received my possible 50.00 Paperweight. But in all honestly the computer worked great. I personally used it for about 3 days. Then realized that I don’t really have a use for it besides as a backup.

Ubuntu worked great. The entire computer works very well. The only problem with the system is the battery which I found for 30.00 online. So now just to buy and install that.
