To Kiss A Werewolf (A Paranormal Book Club Review)
Book Review: A Twist in the Paranormal
This story was a fascinating read because I couldn’t predict what was going to happen next. I often find many stories too predictable and just breeze right through them. However, this book kept me intrigued. When you read the synopsis, you might expect the typical romance trope—guy likes girl, girl likes guy, New Moon imprinting, true love mates—but what you get is something entirely out of this world.

Synopsis
“As president of Paranormal Addicts Anonymous, Stella’s got no time for popular guys. Especially the surfers who hang at Shoreline’s beach—they think flashing a sand-sprinkled, tanned chest is enough to get any girl. But when surfer hunk Damien Capernalli crashes Stella’s PAA field trip to a haunted bed and breakfast, it may be time to rethink her priorities… and what’s with that wolfish gleam in Damien’s eye?”
Review
This story centers around Stella and Damien. The points of view shift back and forth with no clear pattern. The only indication of a change in POV is a little * at the bottom or top of the page. I TOTALLY missed this a few times and had to go back and reread entire sections to understand the transitions. In my opinion, this was quite confusing. Another technical aspect of the writing that bothered me was the lack of indication when Stella or Damien were dreaming. It made some parts of the story hard to follow.
Spoilers Ahead—Read with Caution!
There was a lot of teen angst in the story, and honestly, Stella needed more development. She seemed like a great character at first, totally willing to do her own thing. But then you find out she has an ex-boyfriend who’s crazy, and when he comes back into the picture, she reverts to being preppy again. This part was puzzling. She was preppy when she dated him, moved away because he was psycho, and changed her outfits to half-goth. But when he reappears, she dyes her black hair brown and goes back to being preppy. I honestly don’t understand that part.
Stella is the president of the PAA (Paranormal Addicts Anonymous)—love this name, by the way! Their group plans a field trip to a haunted B&B in California. —Plot hole—Wouldn’t her mother (who you meet later in the story as a gun-wielding girl from Idaho) have a problem with her 17-year-old daughter going to a B&B with a group of people to hunt ghosts and other paranormal creatures?
Just before they leave, a new addition with hairy problems of his own joins their group. This is when you really get to know Damien. He’s already had a few chapters and is incredibly good-looking, a surfer, and the most popular guy in school. Oh, and he’s a werewolf who knows nothing about being a werewolf! He joins the PAA to learn more about his newfound hairiness, much to Stella’s dismay. This is when everything that can go wrong does. Another paranormal creature, zombies, is introduced. The PAA unknowingly kills a zombie, which is really well-written and quite interesting.
As the story progresses, everything starts to add up, but it still doesn’t make complete sense. Just when you think you know where the author is heading, she sends you for a loop, and you’re lost in limbo again.
Because I don’t want to spoil the ending, I’ll stop here. But I will tell you this: after reading this book, I immediately told my friends about it. If you enjoy paranormal love stories, then you should definitely check this series out.
