Fandom Friday: Yu Yu Hakusho – Ghost Files
My boyfriend asked me last night if I wanted to watch the Yu Yu Hakusho. Except when he said it I thought he said the “you you hacka show”. Not knowing what this was … I looked at him like he was crazy.
Turns out that this is an Anime. One that can be found on Hulu.
Yu Yu Hakusho is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi. The series tells the story of Yusuke Urameshi, a teenage delinquent who is struck and killed by a car while attempting to save a child’s life.
This anime is really pretty funny and not one that I would have ever started watching on my own. The main character Yusuke Urameshi is a big bully and he is always yelling at people and seems to be a real A**. But when he finds this kid kicking a ball down the street and yells at him, then makes funny faces the story starts to turn. You get to see a different side of Urameshi.
This leads to him saving the kid at the peril of his own life and that’s where the cool part starts. (right about then, this anime grabbed my attention.) Urameshi is then made into a ghost and is given a choice. He can either accept this challenge or he can remain a ghost. Not a bad choice if you ask me.
He accepts the challenge and finds out that he has to raise this egg. Not just any egg… but one that will determine his fate. If he does bad things then the soul egg will produce a monster that will eat him. If he does good things then the soul egg will lead him back into his body and he will get a second chance at life.
I have only seen the first episode.. so I am thinkin that it will be a very close race based on the fact that this guy cant seem to go 30 seconds without yelling.
Update: I watched the entire first season —Spoiler Alert!—-
Urameshi actually turns out to be a pretty great guy. His temper is one thing that he should probably would on but he does get some lessons that need to be given. The story shows him and the girl who will eventually save him along with a worst enemy turned into the best friend a guy could ask for. The entire first season sets you up for the second and no worries…there is a special Kiss in the works.
