Explore the Magic of the MagicBand

I went to Disney these past two days and I was amazed as I usually am. But what got me this time was the technology that I was surrounded with and was given to wear on my wrist. By that I mean MagicBands.

MagicBands

Disney has been giving out MagicBands to guest staying at their resorts for years now, since 2013 in fact. You can get one when you are a passholder for free or when you buy a ticket into Disney. (But you have to purchase that one separately) These MagicBands are great as they connect straight to your passholder card/ticket into Disney. You may also connect a credit or debit card to the band for purchases made in the Disney Theme Parks But only when you are staying at a resort on park grounds.

MagicBands are not only your way into the parks but also are able to hold your Fast Passes. Fast passes are able to be set up two ways.

MagicBands 1st Generation.

  • though the MyDisneyExperience app at the Google Play Store or the App store or
  • In the park itself, at a FastPass Kiosk

MagicBands are able to be ordered after making your resort reservation. You can specify which color you would like (out of the 8 colors available) If this isn’t done then you and everyone in your party will receive a grey band with the names of the people in your party on them.

The second generation of MagicBands (Shown to the right) looks a little different from the first but not much. These MagicBands are able to be purchased from the booth when you get your ticket or inside any Disney park. You may purchase character designs and also special Limited Time releases. There is also a section in the Magic Kingdom right after your get off Space Mountain where you can design your own MagicBands.

MagicBandits and MagicKeepers…. What are these?

Now this time when I was at Disney I looked at all these MagicBands and realized that you can get a few wonderful accessories. You can get charms that pop into the holes in the bands and also that slide onto the band. Called MagicBandits…. Lol.. great play on words Disney! I was actually sent one that says “Passholder”. It was pretty nice.

I also found out that you could get keychains and also necklaces that way you don’t have to wear it on your wrist. These are called MagicKeepers.  I think this is really nice of Disney to do, it shows that they are thinking of people with disabilities and also of people who just don’t like to have things on their wrist.

Although, I don’t know how the whole having it on your neck thing will work considering that you are going to have to bend down to scan your MagicBand to get into the parks or for your FastPasses. But to each their own.

To the left as you can see, I have put a few images from the web of what these look like. They don’t have much of a selection yet. But I am sure that Disney will produce just as many of these MagicBandits and MagicKeepers as they have MagicBands…and who knows maybe they will even let us design our own in the future. 🙂
