30 Day Anime Challenge Day 1: What was your very first anime?

The very first anime I ever saw was Sailor Moon. A very long time ago I watched this. I don’t remember how I got the chance to watch it, I think it just happened to be on. But Sailor Moon was not the anime that got me hooked.

In fact I don’t even personally count it as my first. My first anime experience actually came about 3 years ago when a friend of mine recommended that I watch Sword Art Online.  (Thank you, Technical Wizard)

Sword Art Online Synopsis: Sword Art Online

In the year 2022, virtual reality has progressed by leaps and bounds, and a massive online role-playing game called Sword Art Online (SAO) is launched. With the aid of “NerveGear” technology, players can control their avatars within the game using nothing but their own thoughts.

Kazuto Kirigaya, nicknamed “Kirito,” is among the lucky few enthusiasts who get their hands on the first shipment of the game. He logs in to find himself, with ten-thousand others, in the scenic and elaborate world of Aincrad, one full of fantastic medieval weapons and gruesome monsters. However, in a cruel turn of events, the players soon realize they cannot log out; the game’s creator has trapped them in his new world until they complete all one hundred levels of the game.

In order to escape Aincrad, Kirito will now have to interact and cooperate with his fellow players. Some are allies, while others are foes, like Asuna Yuuki, who commands the leading group attempting to escape from the ruthless game. To make matters worse, Sword Art Online is not all fun and games: if they die in Aincrad, they die in real life. Kirito must adapt to his new reality, fight for his survival, and hopefully break free from his virtual hell.

The reasons why I liked it:

This anime had me hooked right from the first episode. I think the term “binge watched” totally describes the situation. (In fact when someone mentions anime… I usually work SAO into the conversation to decide if I want to continue talking to that person) I really liked this anime for 3 main reasons 1) the main character Kirito isn’t a complete douche. He is a nice caring guy and he totally owns that. 2) I love the outfits and the weapons 3) its a love story.

Honestly, If you looking for a new anime to watch and your one of those people like me who don’t like to wait around for the next season.. then SAO is a good one. The full series is still on Netflix (I think) and my Boyfriend just got done watching it on HULU.. so definitely check there.
