New Cabins at Disney Fort Wilderness

Recently, Disney transformed the Fort Wilderness cabins, infusing them with a harmonious blend of colors and natural light that perfectly complements the surrounding landscape. The original cabins had a rustic charm, featuring one queen-sized bed, two twin bunk beds in a cozy room, a bathroom next door, and a seamlessly integrated kitchen, dining room, and living room. The deck, with its metal picnic table and benches, added to the charm. Curiously, they had two points of entry, which always puzzled me.

The revamped cabins now boast a stunning wall of glass windows that flood the space with light, making it ideal for stargazing. The bottom curtains can be closed for privacy while keeping the top part open to enjoy the night sky. These windows brilliantly solve the old cabins’ lighting problem—I no longer need to turn on every light just to see. The new design is so well-lit that moving from one room to another is effortless.

The kitchen now hosts an L-shaped counter along the back wall, with a cutout between it and the living room—an ideal spot for a dog’s water bowl. The dining table is now a full-sized six-person table with chairs all around. The living room features a loveseat attached to the wall, a TV mounted on the wall adjacent to the bedroom, and a bench. Though the seating options are limited, Disney knows that guests aren’t there to lounge in the living room. The crowning feature is the Murphy bed hidden behind the couch, which folds down into a full-sized queen bed. My sister-in-law found it far more comfortable than the old pull-out bed.

This past December, my husband, in-laws, and I stayed in one of Disney Fort Wilderness’s new cabins. I wasn’t expecting much of a change, but I was blown away. The new open floor plan allows for a seamless flow from one area to the next. The kitchen and dining table are now thoughtfully integrated—the old table always felt awkwardly placed, and entering the kitchen no longer feels stuffy or cramped.

As dog owners, we always bring our two 80-90 lb dogs to Disney, and we respect their rules by keeping our dogs off the furniture. Their large beds fit comfortably with the Murphy bed both down and up. Previously, I always had to have one bed in the living room and one bed in either the bedroom or the kitchen, which was always a tripping hazard. This new layout allows me to have them both next to each other and out of the walking path.

Disney also redesigned the bedroom and bathroom, so they no longer share a wall. This was fantastic for me because my husband showers late at night, usually around 10 or 11 pm, when I’m trying to fall asleep. The new layout allowed me to sleep undisturbed by the sound of running water. The bedroom now features a small closet near the window, bunk beds along the wall to the living room, and a window that cranks open to let in a perfect sleeping breeze, according to my husband.

The bathroom feels twice the size of the old one, and there’s a separate sink outside the bathroom, perfect for when two people are getting ready for a day in the parks. I can easily do my hair and brush my teeth while my husband showers without being crammed in a hot bathroom.

Overall, the new Disney Fort Wilderness cabins are a remarkable improvement. They effortlessly blend modern design with the natural surroundings, providing a cozy and well-lit retreat. The thoughtful redesign of the kitchen and dining areas, the comfortable Murphy bed, and the separation of the bedroom and bathroom all contribute to an enhanced experience. Whether you’re enjoying a family getaway or a peaceful night of stargazing, these cabins offer a perfect balance of comfort and nature
