Google Nest Thermostat Do or Dont
For some time, I have been discussing the items I use in my home, for my workouts, and various technologically advanced products. Today, I would like to review the Google Nest Learning Thermostat. We purchased ours during Black Friday in November 2019, so we have been using it for 6 months since then.
I don’t think about the thermostat or really what temperature it is in the house as I usually am freezing and have a blanket on me. The only time I seem to notice the temperature is when I am sitting at my computer and that has been quite frequently of late.
Anyway, We thought about this purchase for about a year before we went ahead and bought one. I watched countless YouTube videos on it. Reviews suggest it’s an excellent, affordable smart thermostat with a premium feel, easy setup, and efficient operation. It’s praised for its smart features and energy-saving potential, making it a worthy investment for home automation.
I decided along with my boyfriend that we should get one to save money. Since we pay the electric bill and we are always trying to save money, we should invest in something that makes the bill that much smaller.
Now before I go any further, I want to mention that I live in South Florida. So it is hot here 99.99% of the time. We personally don’t have much use for Heat. I can’t comment on how that part of this device works. But we do have a use for Cooling.
Now a large part of any electric bill is going to be your air conditioner, Especially in Florida.
So back to it. We installed this nifty little device in about 30 minutes. We set it up on the Google Home app and waited. Now I don’t have all the bills lined up in a row and I am not going to post my billing information online. But I will tell you.
In November of 2019, our electric bill hovered around 230.00. After having the Nest Thermostat installed for one month… our electric bill dropped to 190.00. That includes having the Christmas tree up and also the lights on all the time, cause come on Ya’ll it’s Christmas!
By the second month (January) our electric bill dropped to 170.00. Now that is with no other changes besides the Nest Thermostat being installed. It has held steadily around there since then too. But now we are going into the Summer and that usually tends to get hot.
So we will see how we do. I think we will be utilizing the Fan Feature more often than the air to keep the energy bill down but I honestly don’t think it will rise that much if it goes up any.
I personally had never seen an electric bill that was around 250.00 till I moved into the house that I am in right now. It was amazing to watch what one simple thing could change. I was not shocked but I was excited to see that we had an extra 60.00 in our savings. That may not seem like a lot of money but it can add up.
