Book Review: Fairest by Chanda Hahn

After revisiting UnEnchanted, I couldn’t resist diving back into the second book of this captivating series, Fairest. Here’s my review:

Synopsis

Mirror, Mirror on the wall,
Who is the Fairest of them all?

In the sequel to UnEnchanted, Mina Grime discovers that all is not fair when it comes to the Fae and their tales, especially when they don’t all play by the rules. Barely surviving the Story’s first fairy tale quest, Mina still has hundreds to go before she can end the curse on her family. But a new player arises to challenge Mina, and new rules revamp the game she has just barely begun to understand.

Meanwhile, people are mysteriously disappearing, including Jared, whom Mina must finally determine to be a friend or foe. Without her greatest weapon, Mina must try to outwit a deadly hunter. Can she survive the most difficult quest yet while protecting those she loves from falling victim to one of the most lethal tales of all? Or will she become a pawn when she strikes a bargain with the Queen of the Fae?

My Review

First off, a note to Chanda Hahn:

Chanda Hahn,

If you are reading this, please know that I enjoy your writing and hope to do your book justice with this review.

Fairest begins in a seemingly typical way—a girl gets her feelings hurt because the guy she desires, and once had, no longer remembers her. But there’s a twist: her best friend, Nan, is there for her, never giving up. (We all need a Nan in our lives; there isn’t a better best friend.) The story unfolds with plenty of drama, mainly because Mina’s feelings are hurt, and she hasn’t matured enough to realize that everything will be okay.

To be completely honest, I walked into this book thinking I knew what was going to happen. I assumed Mina would end up in a glass coffin, and Brody would have to wake her up. I thought I had it all figured out. Boy, was I wrong! I never could have guessed the ending.

Sorry, no spoilers here. Chanda Hahn’s writing is too good for that. Enjoy the book and the series. It’s fantastic!
